Belvedere Museum Vienna - The world's largest Gustav Klimt collection
The former summer residence of Prince Eugene of Savoy (1663–1736), with its magnificent gardens, is one of the most beautiful baroque ensembles in the world and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2001. Today, as one of the most successful museums in Austria, the Belvedere not only houses the world's largest Gustav Klimt painting collection, but also the most important collection of Austrian art from the Middle Ages to the present in an international context.
The Winter Palace, once built for Prince Eugene of Savoy as a magnificently furnished residential and representative palace, acquired by Empress Maria Theresa in the 18th century, soon used for the Court Chamber and then as the Ministry of Finance, has been open to the public again as a place for art and culture since 2013.
The 21er Haus sees itself as a place for artistic production, reception and reflection. The focus of the exhibition activity, which is characterized by interdisciplinary and social analytical approaches, is Austrian art of the 20th and 21st centuries.
